FES (Pace and Bioness*)

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a treatment that applies small electrical charges to a muscle that has become paralysed or weakened, due to damage in the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves.

Following neurological illness or injury there can sometimes be whole or partial loss of movement to an arm or leg. FES works to temporarily restore that movement and lay down information for the nerve and muscle to recover movement itself or support its ongoing use.

We assess each situation on a case by case basis as to its appropriate use to help restore functional movement.
