Safeguarding Reporting Pathway

Aligned with Carmarthenshire Council

1. Immediate Danger

If a child, young person or adult is at immediate risk of harm

Call 999 — Police / Emergency Services immediately.

● After this, report to your Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) within your  organisation.

2. Recognise & Record

Whenever someone discloses or you suspect abuse or harm:

● Stay calm and listen.

● Do not promise confidentiality.

● Write a clear record of what you were told (use their exact words if possible). ● Include date, time, place, people involved and your own details

Keep this securely on file in line with your safeguarding policy.

3. Internal Reporting

Immediately report the concern to your organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Your DSL should:

● Assess the concern.

● Decide whether a referral to Social Services / Safeguarding Board is needed. ● Help complete a referral if required.

If your DSL is unavailable and you feel a referral is necessary, you should not delay in raising  it yourself

4. Referral to Children’s Services

If the concern is about a child or young person
